I created this awesome picture board using things I already had. The board I used was from an old shelf and was stashed in my garage. It was the perfect size for the intended wall. You could use any size board or any scrap of wood or even create your own shape. The supplies you'll need are a board (the size of your choosing), some wooden clothes pins, paint (I chose black for my particular idea), two screws, picture wire, and a hot glue gun. And, of course, you will need photos.
I decided to use old black and white photos of my mother, her sister, and my grandmother, three women I admired for their innate strength and overall durability as women. My grandmother was born in 1901, mother was born in 1925, and her sister was born in 1923. I often go through the old photos and my imagination runs a bit wild, thinking of life "back then". And I recall many stories my grandmother shared.
Painting the clothes pins probably took the most time, and you could certainly leave them plain, but I wanted black for this particular project. I can imagine the possibilities though. I am a neutral gal most of the time, but I do appreciate color. This project would be fantastic for a teenager. Not only could this board be used for photos, but also greeting cards, concert tickets, old postcards, recipe cards, or mementos of any kind would be perfect for this project.
I started at the center and placed each clothes pin using the first one to gauge the rest and hot glued them in place as shown here.
Using two screws, I placed them where I thought was a good spot for attaching wire for hanging.
I wrapped the wire around each screw and secured each end. I wasn't concerned about the wire showing, as I felt it added a bit of industrial charm.
Then the best part. This was such a fun, yet emotional project in a good way. Although I have seen these photos dozens of times, it always brings me such joy to relive my story. I am so grateful for photographs.
I hope you've enjoyed this quick DIY. I'd love to see what you create. xo, Leslie
