Fall Centerpiece

Updated: Oct 25, 2023

I stopped into Home Goods the other day and ran into a very beautiful, but expensive centerpiece. I wanted it, but for $249, she did not jump into my cart. But, my thoughts swirled and I knew I could make something very similar on my budget. I headed to Hobby Lobby, my main go to for all things crafty. First I looked for a container as I had nothing at home that would work. I found this neat box in the wood things aisle for only $5.99. Although it's not as big as the one at Home Goods, it suited my space perfectly.

I then headed to the flowers section and found the hydrangeas and purchased the perfect burnt orange color. Found the magnolia stem and I do remember that it was a bit pricey at $21.99 compared to everything else, but it was 40% off, so totally worth it. I found the stems with the berries in the thanksgiving sale section and purchased four of those. They had a little pumpkin and some straw attached, but I removed that, thinking it was too much foo foo. I had intended to use a couple of artichokes that I had purchased, but they were too dark and instead I substituted some pears that I had in my own arsenal. So that was all I needed to make mine.

Now I had everything I needed. I started by staining the wood box. You actually could leave it just as it is, or paint it. I opted to stain mine as I didn't want it to stand out in my particular setting. I then hot glued the styrofoam piece to the box. Oh, I forgot to mention I got that at Hobby Lobby too. I know a lot of you probably have this stuff at home and by all means, use it. Shop your home.

The berries were a little too pearly white for me, so I used some craft paint and gave them a little face lift, brighting things up a bit.

I assembled the entire centerpiece by laying the pieces in the box in the pattern that I wanted before I started poking into the styrofoam. It gave me a mental picture instead of just going at it willy-nilly. And I must say that it turned out really nice. I set the pears on top unattached and I was done. I am thrilled!!

Let's do the math. Box was $5.99, Magnolia stem was $21.99 and 40% off. The hydrangeas were $7.99. I bought three at 40% off too. The berry stems were $3.99 at 40% off. And I had the pears. So that makes it about $38.00. $249 for the Home Goods one... maybe I am in the wrong business. Ha! Ha! Holy savings!!!! I hope you enjoyed this DIY and got a little inspiration. xo
