How many times have you wanted to upgrade or replace an old light fixture in your home? Well, I was ready to change my bathroom fixture to something I found at Habitat. Ooo! "She's a beaut, Clark", is all I can say. I go there a lot as some of you know. I found two of the same fixtures and went a little nuts at the scene. No, not really. But, if you're like me, you know a good thing when you see it. Symptom: heart beats fast. I snatched these up quicker than a blink of an eye. Okay, I only paid $10 for each. Heart beating faster at the time. I only needed one, but at that price and the fact that it's neat as all get-out, I bought the pair. They are rustic, industrial, super sturdy, and I am in love... AGAIN! Next step, let's install it myself. Yep, I did it. Not my favorite pastime, but a girl has to do what a girl has to do. I probably saved a few pennies or nickels or dimes in the process. No I saved a lot. I would not suggest playing with electricity unless you really know what you are doing. Over the years, I have installed a ceiling fan and multiple light fixtures. I did have an electric shock with the fan and lived to tell the story, but I learned my lesson about where to cut off the electricity. So, if you want to try it, BE CAREFUL, and do your homework before you start. Anyway, I did it and I am so excited at the end result.
I found these pieces in my garage. They used to hold up leaves on a small end table. I knew I saved them for a reason. Leaf supports, I guess they are called. Lucky for me, when butting them together there was an opening that would allow me to pull the wires through. I tried installing a junction box and only made the hold a cavernous one. Oops!
The goal.
Don't laugh. I am not pumping breast milk today. Ha Ha! I tied the fixture around my neck with a scarf so I could get up on the bathroom vanity and wire the darn thing by myself. Before I started, I made sure I had everything I needed in my pockets, because once wired, no turning back. Well, I guess I could start over if need be.
Here we go. First I put the ground wires together. Always a good idea. Next I put the black to black and white to white. I used wire caps to secure them together for safety. VERY IMPORTANT!!! Voila! I am almost done and no electrocution has happened.
Let there be light! Amen!
Now I need to tidy up the area around the fixture with spackle and paint and that is that!!!
