I acquired a few very, very gold ornate frames from a friend. I liked the look of the swirly carved edges, but the gold was a little too gold for me. So I decided to use some stain to bring it down a notch. Here's a picture of the before. I am waiting on another print to arrive, so that's why the blank frame.
I decided to use a wood stain to tone it down and I think it did the trick. I just used a small paint brush and applied the stain. I just happened to have this color on hand, but any would probably do the job.
After a couple of coats, I think I achieved the look I was going for. I still wanted to see the beautiful gold hue, but not a blinding bright gold. Glad that I could use these frames as they are rather nice and solid wood. I hope this quick and easy DIY inspires you.
