Pine Cone Garland

This is so easy and another one that costs you nothing but your time. I have always collected pine cones for use during the holidays. I usually just place them in a bowl or scatter them around something to embellish for fall or Christmas. But I got to thinking yesterday and making a pine cone garland came to mind.

I started with the ones I had collected over the years and picked out the ones in the best shape, mostly large. Using some twine, I simply wrapped a piece around each pine cone at the base threading it between the little pointy scales. Then I tied each off in a knot, leaving enough of a tail to tie onto a very long piece of twine to create the garland. That didn't take too long.

After threading all the pine cones, I began tying each one onto the longer twine to create the garland, filling in more as needed to create a thick and lush look. It was one of the easiest crafts I've ever done and I think I'll be using this year after year. And this is one that kids could enjoy as well and even paint a color of their choice.

I snipped the twine threads to about an inch so I could hide them in between the cones.

I am really pleased with the finished product. I may add another step and spray a little gold paint lightly to give it a more upscale finish, but not at all necessary if you like the natural finish. I hope you've enjoyed this simple and very affordable project. xo, leslie
