I acquired these frames from one of my favorite shopping holes... Goodwill.
I originally had them in my bedroom as pictured. I'd forgotten about them and came across them when cleaning out a space. They never had art in them, but the frames are ornate and I love them.
I had never used rub n' buff before, had seen it used, and it occurred to me that perhaps a little of that may do the trick to give these frames a new look.
First I gave them a coat of black craft paint. You may be thinking it would've been much easier if I'd sprayed them. You are right, but it's freezing here, so I used my paint brush to do the job. It literally took no time at all. Dried in a jiffy too.
Next I took a little of the Rub n' Buff (you only need a little bit) on the tip of my finger and started rubbing over the raised areas first, then added more to the flat areas. I just eye balled it, adding a little at a time until I thought it looked good. I don't have any art at the moment so I thought I'd just hang as is. Then I added an existing piece of art I wasn't using and hung it inside the frame. Turned out pretty great! My goal is to put canvas art in the frame once I find it.
I do have the framed dog prints in my living room. Those frames came from Hobby Lobby. I am thinking a little Rub n' Buff may update them as well. Hmm... I found a new element to play with. So, my thinking was right. Here is a before and after. Hope you found some inspiration today. xo
